Hurricane Katrina was fed by warming oceans.  This composite of NASA satellite images shows that over a three day period, Hurricane Katrina was fed by a powerful heat sink in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.  Many scientists believe that global climate change could make this ocean warming a regular occurrence, increasing the frequency of mega-hurricanes.

I'm working to change the way science is communicated and restore it to its rightful place. This is an indie blog that takes many hours a week to publish. If you'd like to support It's Okay To Be Smart or just buy me a drink, please consider even a small donation. Together we CAN!
