Q:Since you posted about music,I have a question. It's been told to me that music has originated from language and as a corollary a "primordial" way to communicate. If this is correct can you speculate on why it has such a profound effect on us,and where it might be headed in the future.(although I dont think anything will outdo the guitar or drums ever) . Oh yeah! What do scientists thrash it up to anyhow? You do thrash it up ,right?

Music is absolutely a deeply-rooted means of communication and neural pleasure. I could cover pages on the topic between basic pattern recognition of beats over noise, the reptilian brain’s influence on musical patterns, the neural “guessing” game of following beats and melodies, and the connections to mating and culture.

But I don’t have pages and pages, so I must insist that you read these two articles on the subject (they are actually reviews of books that explore the subject deeply if you’re more interested).

You better believe we thrash it up. What do I listen to? If I’m mellow it’s this or this. If I am feeling more energetic it’s this, this or this. If I’m rage-y, it’s something more like this or this. You know, the usual.
