  • Neil DeGrasse Tyson Eugene Mirman - StarTalk - Infrasound

Neil DeGrasse Tyson talks about infrasound as a possible source for “ghost” sightings and other odd apparitions on StarTalk.

“Infrasound” is sound below 20 Hz (the limit of human hearing). It turns out that sound at 19 Hz can cause the human eye to resonate, matching the vibration of your eye tissue to the sound. This causes images that aren’t really there to appear in your vision … so are ghosts just super-low frequency sounds?

Hmm …

I'm working to change the way science is communicated and restore it to its rightful place. This is an indie blog that takes many hours a week to publish. If you'd like to support It's Okay To Be Smart or just buy me a drink, please consider even a small donation. Together we CAN!
