Scientists in love, courtesy of the fantastic Smithsonian Flickr stream.
Let’s see, we’ve got:
Willamette Porter Cockerell and Theodore Cockerell, on top with the sunflowers. “Before and after their marriage in 1900, they frequently went on collecting expeditions together and assembled a large private library of natural history films, which they showed to schoolchildren and public audiences to promote the cause of environmental conservation.”
On the bottom left are Gerty Cori and Carl Cori, who were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in medicine.
Then Marion Brickwedde with Ferdinand G. Brickwedde, showing off their apparatus for making heavy water.
And finally, Mary Douglas Leakey and Louis Leakey, who are obviously hatching an unholy scheme of some kind, but are being very cute about it.
Sigh.  I seem to have something in my eye…

Oh, to meld the passions of your brain with the passions of your heart … that is a true gift :)

About

I'm Joe Hanson, Ph.D. biologist and host/writer of PBS Digital Studios' It's Okay To Be Smart. Check out my "Episode Extras" here. There's a lot of amazing science out there. Let's go discover it together.

Joe's science book recommendations, from brains to biology to space to art to physics.

This is an indie blog that takes many hours a week to publish. If you'd like to support It's Okay To Be Smart, please consider even a small donation.
