Objects in nature that exhibit the Golden Ratio … now includes the uterus?

That most “pleasing” of ratios, and the ultimate resolution of the Fibonacci sequence, is the Golden Ratio.

1.618

Found in nature inside these patterns:

  • Pinecones
  • Sunflowers
  • Pineapples
  • Seashells
  • Romanesco cauliflower
  • The ratio of your first and second knuckle
  • “Beautiful” smiles

And now … the most fertile female uteruses? It’s not immediately apparent how “scientific” this study was, but a Belgian doctor reports that in the years that a female is most fertile (age 16-20), the ratio of height and width of the uterus falls awfully close to the golden ratio.

This could very well be an anatomical coincidence, of course, but I don’t think Fibonacci ever envisioned this.
