Tofurkey, Tryptophan and Thanksgiving Torpor
I hate to be the one to break it to you guys, but the tryptophan/turkey/sleepiness story is a myth. Eating turkey doesn’t cause any tryptophan-induced coma or neurotransmitter-related sluggishness. You’re just tired because most of the blood in your body is hanging around your digestive system (and it’s like 15% butter, so it doesn’t pump very well) and also because of something called postprandial somnolence.
Don’t hate me, I’m just here to help.
